Lil Kim "No Matter What They Say"

From her second album The Notorious KIM released in 2000 via Queen B Entertainment (Atlantic Records), this hit is the lead single of the album. The sog is produced by Darren Limitless Henson and contains numerous samples, the loop is Jose Feliciano "Esto Es El Guaguanco", Special Ed "I Got It Made", Sugar Hill Gang "Rapper's Delight", Eric B & Rakim "I Know You Got Soul" and the line from Brandy @ I'm just trying to be me, doing what I gotta do" from the song "Top Of The World".
The music video is real fun and features cameo from Diddz, MJ Blige, Missy Elliott, Redman, Method Man, Xzibit, Carmen Electra and members from Junior M.A.F.I.A. The video is realized by Marcus Raboy who worked with a lot of people including Shakira for her "Waka Waka This time for Africa" music video.

This music video was unreal and I enjoyed watching it when I was younger, still efficient today!

Jose Feliciano "Esto Es El Guaguanco" (1971)

Special Ed "I Got It Made"

Eric B & Rakim "I Know You Got soul"

P. Diddy "D.I.D.D.Y" feat. Pharrell

P. Diddy (or Puff Daddy, or Diddy... ) released this track in 2001, out of his third studio album (this one in colaboration with the Bad Boys Familly) The Saga Continues... album released through his label Bad Boy Entertainment. The album was quite surprising because it was not featuring any songs with the expected rappers such as Lil Kim, Mase, Jay-Z or a pre-recorded track with the one and only Notorious B.I.G.
The song is produced by The Neptunes and you recognize the voice of Skateboard P aka Pharrell Williams. Song contains 2 samples, first is the Boogie Down Production hit "Jimmy (Song)" replacing Jimmy by Diddy... I know, Diddy has done that his entire career! The second sample is Eric B. & Rakim "Eric B. is President" with the line "I came through the door, I said it, before..." and he did that with a tone of other lines, like "Sometimes I rap slow, sometimes I rap quick..."

Even after this, this is a major classic released early 2000's and still creates its momentum when you play it loud. Don't you think? I don't even talk about the Diddy dance.

Redman "Can't Wait"

Redman released this massive track in 1994, out of his second album Dare Iz Darkside via Def Jam. The song is produced by Erick Sermon (with Regie Noble as a co-producer who is... Redman himself) and contains sample from Mary Jane Girls "All Night Long" and Bob James "Caribbean Nights". The song peaked #94 in Billboard Hot 100 and #11 on Hot Rap Singles. The album is certified Gold has it sold over 500'000 copies in the US. It was the golden era of the the New Jersey boy, he was even more famous after his collaboration with Method Man (from the Wu-Tang Clan) in the late 90's. This track is certainly a huge classic to have in your collection and the vibe of the song is still authentic 20 years after! So turn up the volume and bounce your head on this one!

MC Lyte "Cold Rock a Party" remix ft. Missy Elliott

I rock the party that rocks the body! What  a classic, gold certified (in 97) and 11 at Billboard's Hot 100. The song is out of her fifth studio album Bad As I Wanna Be, the album was released through Elektra Records in 1996. The song Cold Rock a Party was originally produced by Rashad Smith but the remix featuring Missy Elliott and produced by Puff Daddy (Sean Combs) was even more successful. That's the version of the music video down, sampling the world famous Diana Ross "Upside Down". The new-yorker female MC's was recognize to be the first female releasing a Rap album.
Sorry for the poor quality of the video but I didn't find much better.

Diana Ross "Upside Down" (1980)

Mos Def "Ms Fat Booty"

Mos Def on the Klin Jam of the Day. Yeazir, even if this song didn't get recognize by the Billboard's ranking or is not featuring on the best ranking spots, this is THE song you had to play if you were a Hip Hop Dj Nevertheless his first album Black On Both Sides released in 1999 via Rawkus Records was certified gold. The rapper was expected to release a classic album after the buzz he had with his album with Talib: Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star (1998).
The song is produced by Ayatollah and samples Aretha Franklin "One Step Ahead". The story is about a man that had a crush on a hot lady… classic, not really innovative but Mos do it so perfectly that we LOVE it, you have to listen until the last line…
So many lines, this one is one of a kind "ass so fat that you can see it from the front" and "Burning candles, all my others plans got cancelled"…
In the music video her name is Trouble! That's perfect…

Aretha Franklin "One Step Ahead" (1965)

Davina "So Good" Remix feat. Raekwon

Davina, from Detroit, released this single in 1998, through Loud Records. The remix version of the song is featuring the Wu-Tang member Raekwon. On this remix though, not much is changing, same beat, same part from her, expect Raekwon is rapping his part. This song is from the album Best Of Both Worlds which peaked 34 on the R'n'B charts. This song was not a major commercial success like we've seen in 98 but I did love it and I think it deserves its place among the classics. Track is produced by Davina herself and samples Cal Tjader "Django" ft. John Lewis. Very well executed, this is a must have in your collection and it doesn't loose its soul even 16 years later. Sad story is that she has been kicked off Loud Records because of poor sales. Too bad for us, I liked her flow…

Cal Tjader "Django" ft. John Lewis, a bit slower than Davina's sample...

Nelly "Dilemma" feat. Kelly Rowland

Second single from the second Nelly's album Nellyville this one is featuring the one and only Kelly Rowland. This song will peak and stay #1 during 10 weeks! The song is also available on Kelly's Simply Deep, both album were released in 2002. This song won the grammy award of the Best Rap-Sung collaboration in 2003.
The song is produced by Bam & Ryan (from St. Louis) and was released through Universal, Columbia.
The song samples Patti Labelle "Love, Need and Want You", the instrumental loop and the hook lyrics.
Now I have to say that I've dreamed about dating Kelly in my backyard, she is soooooo amazing.

Patti Labelle "Love, Need and Want You"

Eminem "My Name Is"

Eminem, aka Slim Shaddy released that song is 1999 from his album The Slim Shady LP via Aftermath, Interscope. The ssong was a huge success and won a Grammy Award for the Best Rap Solo Performance and ranked number 36 on the US billboard hot 100.
The Marshall Mather's song is produced by Dr. Dre while the music video is realized by Philipp Atwell. The video was a trouble maker because it contains a lot of critics and attacks of various TV shows, about the country side way of living, the gay pop and even the President of the United Sates B. Clinton. Eminem in this song is also attacking his Mom, saying that she lied to him and she was doing dope more than him. She sued him for $10 million dollars...
Just a little, controversy, cause it feel so empty without me... he will sing that few years latter...

Eve "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" feat. Gwen Stefani

Out of her second album Scorpion released in 2001 via Ruff Ryders Entertainment (Interscope).
The song is featuring No Doubt's rock singer pop star Gwen Stefani. The Ruff Ryders first lady reached #2 at the Billboard Hot 100. In the music video, the 2 hot bomb are disturbing a formal private party and they end up in jail. Who's picking the bill and get their freedom? Mr. Dr. Dre, not bad hhen, true that now he has 3.2 billion on top of what he already had, it's nothing to pay for their freedom! lol. The song is produced by Dr. Dre himself with the help of Scott Storch. There is no samples for this one... pure production/composition.
Now be honest, how many of you dreamed about Eve and Gwen coming to your party? I did it all the time... Eve and her red hair, which one is your favorite, Eve or Gwen? I go for EVE!
